Title: Engine code missing

Is there ever a block without an engine code under the generator stand?  I can't see one and I have tried cleaning it down, or do I need to keep scrubbing with a wire brush?  It's a 1600 dual port and it has been sitting for a long time and is looking for a new home asap.

Could be a replacement case. If it didn't originate in a production car, it wouldn't have a production number on it.
