Title: Stock '55 T-1 Tranny With A 1776 ?
Post by: slugbug on July 21, 2004, 10:21:57 AM
Is a '55 stock T-1 non syncro 1st gear tranny, strong enough for a 1776 motor?
Or should I think of swapping the tranny for a later one with bus nose cone and hockey stick.
I can get a 64 sunroof bug for $300 US. Will a 64 tranny work ok?

a stock trans will not hold up if you give it a little abuse at all.i would swap to the 64 trans myself,if you do decide to do it just swap the backing plate from side to side then the ebrake cables will fit properly

I say it's like this , .........I know guys that could shatter any trany with a stock 36hp running on 3 cyl.   I also know guys that could make that early trans last forever with a 2275.  It will just depend on you ;)

HeHeHe, I blew a stock tranny with an extremely tired 1600 single port.
Its all circumstance.
