Happy new year indeed!
Can't wait to see Craigslist tomorrow when all the beaters that couldn't pass are suddenly for sale at inflated prices.
I won't miss it but I'll admit it forced me to become a better mechanic, thanks for the lessons in smog mangement technology Aircare.

Finally !!!

i'm probably in the minority here...but i think aircare served it's purpose, had it's place and helped keep most vehicle owners and sales & service facilities honest(ish) and helped keep most of the vehicles running efficiently. yes, it was a bit of a hassle/added expense and there were scammers out there, but with the massive population growth in the last 20 years i think it helped keep the lower mainland air a little cleaner. plus like busdaddy said, it surely educated alot of people/mechanics (myself included).
it'll be intersting to see what happens next...whether or not we'll all be sucking fumes from a pos in front of us, or if there will be more smog hanging in the valley than usual, or if another type of vehicle inspection will be devised (full vehicle, like the mot overseas). we'll see!

Totally agree Silas , in most cases it just meant you had to have your vehicle running correctly . Now everyone will just drive their cars with the check engine light on forever and wont know or care whats going wrong with it or whats coming out the tail pipe until it finally dies , myself included . I am glad its over , for all the wrong reasons .

What is this aircare thing you Vancouverites always complain about?

So much for my fantasy island home, time to move back to the mainland.

Ditto.
I thought I knew how to tune a carb, but Aircare proved that wrong.

Don't worry about old beaters on the streets of Vancouver; They've all come to Saltspring to die. It's sort of like the elephant graveyard.
