so my Baja bug is almost ready for the road after a 6 year hiatus, and I need some sun visors for legality. has anyone had any luck with non- acvw sunvisor retro-fits? I'm not looking for purist fit and look, I'm after rugged, near unbreakable. this Baja will be going into some really nasty places.
I'm also after some trunk style carpet for the rear area, which is really big, as the rear seat is long gone and I built a shelf so its like a big flatdeck back there. any donor car ideas?
its been a long time since I've set foot into a non-vw wrecking yard so if any of you frequent pick-n-pull, please give you 2 cents worth! thanks!

Who says sun visors are required by law?
-
When I completed my buggy in late 2008 there was a requirement in the inspector's manual for a drivers side sun visor. At that time I don't believe the requirement was in the regulation or if it was, it was not well explained. ICBC advised me to go and read the manual to make sure I was in compliance with all items in the manual. I made some notes and got into compliance. I also had the inspector come to my house to do a pre inspection check. Well worth the 1/2 hr. I paid.
It's a little hard to see and it's not very big. Attached to the upper window frame. I made it from a spare US Rabbit unit.

I don't know if that requirement is still in force.

I did the bc assigned vin process for a car I built and needed the visors to pass provincial inspection. I used some cheap aftermarket ones from cup and fanned up a half ads bracket to pass the test. It's been unbolted ever since. If you need something, pm me and you can borrow it.

the car doesn't need an inspection. I'm just being over the top paranoid about receiving an inspection order by an overzealous rcmp member. thanks to the new laws in b.c., all off-road vehicles need a reggy and and insurance now.
in any event, I got the back area all carpeted up, so the interior has a less "mad max" look about it. and over all, the Baja in question is all one colour, is remarkably rust free, and the tires are above 75%. the sketchy stuff is the bumpers don't go all the way to the edge of the body, which I'm not really keen on changing
-
Haven't had a problem with mine, no visors or bumpers out to the edge of the fenders, just run her!

I stand to be corrected but in 2008 there was no regulation or item in the inspector's manual that indicated that a bumper had to reach to the edge of the body. We checked very carefully. I believe the item was repealed prior to 2008. Has it been reinstated? That I can't say. Check the regulation and the current inspector's manual to be sure.
I wanted the shorter bumper to accommodate my tow bar as you can see in this pic:

i doubt there is a law, its mostly paranoia. but on the other hand, my 69 beetle that is lowered has no bumpers whatsoever.
I need to lay off the tin foil hat I think
