ok i was wondering if anyone has ever changed a steering box in an early bay before and i was wondering if there was a kit you can uy to rebuild or if you have to buy a new one and how do you check if yours needs tlc. it seems fien but when i went to get new tires they would not align me un less i got a new steering box I just went to this project place in abby but still how do you know? If anyone could help would be great

Did they try to get you to have them do the work?
What made them think or say it needs doing?
Maybe they dont understand VW's?!

yeah that was my last resort he does good work mad props to him and his shop just trying to figure it out my self but hey thanks, if anyoen else has anyidea's swingum

There are no kits available for the 68-72 bus boxes. I'm in the need of one too. They cost quite a bit for a rebuilt piece, I did see one on ebay, rebuilt for 200.00 usd. Trying to find a decent used one seems slim to none.

Hmmm, do you have a bad used one laying around? If so maybe I could take it to work and have one of the mechanics look at it.

Sure I do James, its in my van and needs some much needed tlc. I think you would just have to make a new worm gear and bushing to make it tight again
