He's supposed to have one of the best car collections in the world, not to bad for a guy who started with one garbage truck!

I have been to the Lemay Museum. There was so much to see, that I spent about 5 hours looking around. The museum does have a few ACVWs on display. But there are many other cars to see as well.
When I was there, they had some special exhibits of electric cars and Ferraris.
The electric car display started in the early 1900s and went up to modern day. I saw the only EV-1 to still exist. As well as some very early electric cars that could best be described as old phone booths, on wooden wagon wheels.
The Ferraris started from the very beginning (1950s?) and went to modern day. Ooh! F40!
There are lots of concours type cars. Old Bentleys, Rolls Royce, Dusenberg, Mercedes, Jaguars, etc.
The VWs are a bonus. I'd recommend taking a look even if they didn't have the VW display.

Edited to add the P.S.
The Lemay Museum is in Tacoma, about 30 miles (50 km) south of Seattle.
