Title: becker stereo repair
Post by: roqueweiler on May 31, 2013, 09:25:15 AM
Hey All,

Has anyone sent a stereo to Becker in New Jersey for refurb?  Can you enlighten me as to shipping/customs etc - I am thinking driving down to Blaine and going UPS is likely best and cheapest.

Conversely, does anyone know a good stereo repair shop locally who can do the refurb and add an aux jack so I can get collector insurance on my 1971 Ghia ragtop?

thanks

I think I've used this guy to restore the am/fm I had in my 68 convertible:    Rich Langenwalter, who goes by user name   "Rich Langenwalter" on the samba. He was reasonable and pretty quick, and yes I shipped it out of the states to avoid "repair" status and the hassle with customs.

has links to a few repair places in Ontario too.... odd that there aren't a few in the lower mainland. I know I've looked around, they must just work out of their basement, and only advertise by word of mouth.

http://home.cogeco.ca/~wildtubes/index.htm  does a flat $50 for estimates, but takes that off the bill. He's $25 per hour!

I used the guy on the samba in Florida to repair my Blaupunkt Emden 3. It came back working perfect as to be expected. Great guy (electrical engineer I believe), kept me updated as he worked on it with a thorough analysis of what was wrong with it. Maybe not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.
