ok, so my car died today! I had made a sudden turn onto a side street and stopped, the car coughed a little and died, it won't start now! there is gas in the car, what could it be ? it is a stock 1600dp, I need some help as I left the car on the side of the road! does anyone have any suggestions before I tow it tomorrow  :(

Check and see if it is getting gas in the carb
See if it is getting spark
-
many years ago that happened to me and it was the fuel pump ;)

Could be a vapor lock, wait for it to cool down then try starting it. If it is still warm take the fuel line off the pump and let the air out.
What do you have for ignition? points or pertronix? I have had a few pertronix die.

if there is no power at all, it could be the big red wire on your light switch on the dash. mine pulled off before from a loose connection and died too

Are you running points? My rail has done this a few times, and the points had closed :mullet: :mullet:

Is that not Brents 1600... Man that was a strong engine... single port right?? It is points I think\

If you have not changed the distributor it has dual points. Check to make sure your getting spark, and that thepoints have not closed. If they are opening but still no spark, then change the condensor. Try that... Good luck.

I think it might be the gas, there is fuel in the line going into the pump and no fuel in the line going out of the pump to the carb, I pulled off both lines to check, I also took off the air filter and looked down the carb, pulled the throttle and only a drip came out, so my guess is it is not getting fuel so it could be the fuel pump. I will swap it tomorrow, also looking at the points, it is dual points, do both have to open similtaneously because both are open briefly at the same time but one will open and close before the other. any other ideas anyone?
hey Brent, did you see the car in the lot at the show? I gave it a quick paint job to cover all the primer spots, I didn't get to spend the time doing the body like I wanted to, we sold the jeep and needed a second vehicle asap! I love driving the car lots of comments!
