Title: Question about bearings and crank dimensions
Post by: Porschedave on March 20, 2013, 09:44:00 AM
Hi Folks
What oil clearance can I expect between the crank main bearings and the crank journals? The bearings are new and sized to match the machined crank. With my measurements I get 3 thou and this seems consistent with Jim Martin's engine-build resource but I thought that I'd ask around before I assemble this engine (for my '65 notch restoration).
Thank you.
Dave

Hi Jim
Thank you for your post and offer to help. I have read your engine-build thread a number of times and in fact am following all of the instructions regarding measurement in preparation for assembly. After a bunch of time I think that I have successfully measured the bearings in the case, the journals and compared the two as well as the cam and the oil pump. I still have to do measure the rods. I have weighed them and selected a set that is pretty close to the same weight and thenI think that I am good to assemble. This is for a type 3 engine, 1776 with a full-flow setup.
Thanks again for your for offer and for the build sheet.
Dave
