I know it's not so much of a secret, but after wanting to post assorted progress reports.... but just too damn busy (and a request from VW that I keep it under wraps), here's a quick rundown of what's happened and where I'm at with my beetle. With the amazing help and support of Geoff Peterson... the car is on the road.. at least to get onto the trailer.
Lots of long days and late nights in May to get it done for delivery to VW Canada on June 4th. My car is one of the first on the boatload arriving in Toronto in December 52, and I had asked VW last summer if they might want to use it for th 60th anniversary. They replied saying they weren't sure what they were goint to do, so I let it go.
Then on May 4th, the discussion started with an email from VW Canada... was it done, if not, could I get it finished in a month? So calling in the only person I knew who could tackle the car in such a short timeframe, Geoff and I discussed if and how we could do it. We agreed it was possbile, but all the pieces of what had to be done had to come together just right to get it done.
With the help of Marc at Wolfsburg West, a few large boxes arrived two days after I made the mutli page order of Vintage parts. Special thanks too to Russ at Frances Andrew Site Furnishing for the fantastic powder coating work and help along the way to push things through. (www.francesandrew.com)
The guys at Jaspers Auto Body in Langley were amazing in getting some body and paint work finished, Bruce T. for lock help, and Stefan for wheel assitance! Also, Jeff Slater in Seattle for semaphore work and Rick Herity in Edmonton for 25hp parts and motor services... John henry at Zarwerks for wires and a manifold, and Steveo and Josh on the island for bits and pieces along the way.
The car was at Pacific Auto Trim when a previous photto was posted last month. . and was just near the end of getting things done. Lots of little delays on the journey, some illness and tough situations trying to meet our self imposed deadlines... (along with Sacramento and the Classic) but we planned for it all and it came together.
As the VW Canada facebook page shows this lovely November 1st built 1952 Deluxe Beetle, I thought I'd borrow a few photos of it in Montreal.

As they've officially got the car until Mid-September, I don't don't know if it will be here in time for the Great Canadian, got my fingers crossed. If I've missed anyone in my thanks... I appologize... it was a long haul.
thanks again for the support of the community! More pics to come.

Nice! You know you've done a good job when the company that built the cars borrows it back for promotion.

right on brian!! big congrats to you and everyone involved in getting the car finished for the 60 year celebration.
it sure would be cool to see your car at the GCVWS!!! imho, it would be some good positive publicity for VWOA to have it displayed at the biggest and best vw car show in canada...whether they see it that way or not or if it's going to work schedule wise...i guess we'll have to wait and see.
regardless...you must be so stoked, and congrats again on some great work to a cool car!

SO happy for you Brian! I can't wait to see it, and do hope it makes it to the GCVWS at the end of August. Kudos to those that contributed in getting her done for you. Cheers.

Awesome job!!! Fantastic looking car!!!
Any chance on getting some background/history on the car? like where you found the car, its condition when purchased, how original or correct is the car, etc...
Thanks for posting!
-
sure Phil, I'm trying to get it together to post. I bought the car in California. I saw it on the samba, tried to buy it but it got sold quickly. It came up again 6 months later with the new owner wanting to sell it. I checked into it's history before buying it and knew it was an early VW Canada delivered car. It came with some parts, original engine, but a bare shell inside. Correct... I'd say 95% at the moment. Original... hard to guess on that. Original pan, front end, transmission, hood, doors, generator, starter, distributor, carb, fuel pump, gas tank. The interior was totally redone with a german reproduction of the original material, which is almost identical. I was running short of material at the end, and used original material from the door panels to make the grab handle. They look identical. Wolfsburg West headliner and orignal style carpet
more to come.
