Title: Starting problems
Post by: FireBug1 on July 12, 2012, 11:11:36 PM
My '66 Beetle 1300 runs very smooth but it has a real hard time starting. It turns and turns and I pump the gas and it eventually starts and runs great. Have had a recent tune up and all else is well. Is this a distributor issue or ignition? Any help would be great thanks

maybe your fuel pump has to much psi. making it hard to start as it will push fuel past the float seat...aka  gas smell...

Just for kicks try holding the gas pedal to the floor (no pumping) and see how it starts (please let go when it does start).

With the pedal to the floor the outcome is still the same. Maybe fuel pump problems by the sounds of it? You guys are great, thanks for the help!
