Title: 4 tab emblems
Post by: Jodasa on February 28, 2012, 10:04:26 PM
So I'm curious...

I have a 4 tab emblem and a 4 tab hood.
However the tabs on the emblem do not line up quite right with the hood, and I believe it seems a little bigger than I thought the 4tab emblem was.
So the question is:
Is the 4tab emblem that fits on the 3prong adapter for early 60's hoods, larger in diameter than a standard 4 tab hood emblem?
Is that what I must have here?

i have a early 60s emblem still with the plastic 3 prong here if you or anyone has a 4tab one we can measure the difference...

well from folded tab to folded tab still with the plastic in it, mine came out to 8cm across

some of the 3 prongs actually have a plasitic incert that the dowels are in and the outer aluminum stamped part has 4 prongs that bend over the plastic

the prongs on these later ones are spaced different than the "real" 4 prong early emblems....

Right Josh, here is a photo of the 3prong insert with a 4tab emblem.

(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.thesamba.com%2Fvw%2Fgallery%2Fpix%2F478654.jpg&hash=aa4bb1b0d0069e551e0df842530f2cc3adbccdde)

And you are saying the 1961 4tab-3prong emblem is different in diameter, and the tab spacing is different from a 1956-60 4tab emblem.
If that is the case then I have a 4tab-3prong emblem, not he 4tab emblem I'm looking for.

Thanks that is what I thought but wanted to check for sure.
Cheers guys.
