Title: No clutch pressure
Post by: Chris W on February 11, 2012, 04:09:37 PM
My clutch was not engaging till the last inch or so of the pedal travel. I figured it may be that the clutch/pressure was stuck as the car/engine has been sitting. I just replaced it and it was not stuck. If I undo the pedal stop in will still only start to get hard the last few inches before hitting the floor.

Any ideas?

I remember one car I was putting together from parts, it did what you describe.  Then I found I was a MILE away from the correct freeplay, even though I thought I set it right.
What happens if you wind in the wing nut another 10 full turns?

Or, take the e-brake boot off and shoot a light down in there so you can see the tubes.  Have a helper push the pedal in and out while you watch the tubes.  If you see one moving, it's broken away from it's bracket and needs rewelding.

like Bruce said, Almost every pan I've had needed to have the tube welded at the front near the pedal assembly. Get out a big hole saw and cut on pass side tunnel and re weld the tab or better yet fab up a new bracket and weld that in.

Ding ding ding. I feel like a dumbass for not checking that more. It's just so fun to pull the engine, carbs etc for the new clutch. Another 10ish turns and it was there.

Clutch tube is good to go, access holes have been cut and patched or I made covers and the tube is reinforced with brackets I made up.
