Title: engine serial number

I picked up a motor with no serial number.All there is is a capital "D" where the serial number should be.is there a second place I could look or does anyone know what the capital "D" stands for.

thank you.Everything writen in the Samba page is correct with my engine.Be nice to know the year.

Not sure what the samba page shows (can't open it here), but it should be a 1965 40hp 1200 and have cam bearings.   Not a good engine to build up, but they can be quite reliable if left stock.

With no numbers, it could be anything.  Post a pic of the case.
