a friend just sent a BMW from Vancouver to Ontario for just under $900.  Why would anyone want to buy a car from the rust belt of Canada?

I see a fair amount of cars for MVIs from back east in the shop I work for. Even an 07 could have rust concerns. If its been well looked after it could be fine, but I would get them to take it to a shop and get underside pics before purchase. Your probably not going to have giant rust holes in the body or anything crazy like that but I had an 03 Corrolla last year that had to have steel brake lines replaced because they were so badly corrodded they were going to start leaking very soon. Nothing major, but a cost most people arent expecting. I had an Astro van come in about 5 years ago, it was about a 10 yr old van at the time. While it was sitting in the parking lot waiting for me to get to it, the very rusty gas tank straps broke and the tank fell on the ground! Something to keep in mind. Hope it works out for you.

That car has 6 winters on it.  It's gonna be rotten.

I dealt with a car roughly that age a few years ago that was an ex Ontario ride, every single bolt and screw was stuck solid and usually broke off or stripped when you tried to remove it, it also had rust starting in places you never see it on a local or western states car, just saying don't be suprised.

If they are was less than a year old, I wouldn't be concerned.

If the budget is the issue, I'd trim down or model down just to have a local west coast car!

oregon has some good deals too, dry areas there with good pricing.... although not sure of the "free trade" implications of getting it here.

Seattle and Oregon don't use salt in the Winter so cars don't get wrecked as fast.  What are you looking to buy there that is a good deal and worth the risk?

She's got her heart set on an infinity FX35 they seem to be a bit cheaper and plentiful in T.O. Area
I think I'll source something out here you guys have scared me off of shit from back east.

You might to better by using a broker here who will be able to bring a car from further down in the states.  Given that the model will still be coming up off lease it might be a better bet to find a dry Texas/Arizona/Cali car.  I know when my Dad was looking for an E60 550i the package he wanted (M-Sport) was pretty rare up here and easy to find for the broker in the states, and would have saved him about $10K over typical asking prices up here even after fees and shipping.   In the end he found the package and colour locally at a deal he couldn't refuse but PM me if you want the number for the broker he was talking to.
