I'm looking for a 26 window supreme that needs work. Something that the work on it is fairly simple if possible. Please reply if you can help me with this in any way.
-
I have a '49 26 window supreme for sale. It has the original 125 horse motor with three port heads and massive dual Weber 25s. The tranny is the old six speed tiptronic which might need new oil bearings. Brakes are four wheel disc cable brakes with eight piston calipers... you have to push pretty hard. It runs great and I need to sell it. I had it appraised at $25,000. bucks but it has a flat tire so I'm willing to let it go for a case of Lucky.

That's known as a 21 window deluxe or Samba.
-
Doesn't get much worse looking than that lol_hitting
Before that bus got all f-UK-'d it was a 21 window deluxe

I saw one in Robert's Creek on the high side of the highway around Leek Rd. The guy said it was all there but needed lots of work. He said it was spoken for but hadn't received any cash yet. He said for 6 grand I could have it. My friend told me about it at the end of November and I saw it at the end of December. I haven't been by there since. Might still be there.
-
My Dad kept telling me about that one everytime he came down from Powell River. Last trip down he said it was gone.
-
yea, i talked to that guy about it. and thanks, i thought they were 26 window, not 21. But Im looking for something in the 1,500$ area.
-
here ya go there asking 1500usd for this on samba

That was a crappy sunroof mechanism....
-
yes it was a crappy sunroof but thats what you get for $1500 when looking for a 21 or 23 window. What your looking for is the one of the most sought after VWs and your lucky if you can find a basket case for under $6000

Well, Thats surprising, my old man was saying he saw one for 1500 that was in okay-ish shape. I guess i'll just have to look out for a regular van and cut some holes in it chainsaw But seriously i guess im just going to have to go with a regular van.
-
yeah caravan and i mean dodge caravan

stfu Maybe A bay window bus. Once again I want one that needs work to be done. Not nescessarily because I cant afford A nice one (which I cant) but my whole love with vw's is working on them.
-
but my whole love with vw's is working on them.
Then you should fit in perfect around here. There is always lots of love.
-
there has to be some bull shit going on here. If you say you love working on VW's how can you be so clued out to what one is? 26 windows instead of 23 or 21, 1500 for a van versus what is the true selling prices.....sounds like a wee bit of tom foolery going on here.....

I'm 14, I've had 2 beetles, and now im looking at getting a third, I have worked on my dads bus but that is it. I know barley anything about buses and i want to get one and learn.

PDT_Armataz_01_37 There's nothin' wrong with that! Good luck with your search! :D

This is why introductions are important! If everyone knew your age and your skill level they would go a little easier on you. Now that everyone knows what's up I'm sure you will see nothing but help from everyone here on the ASF!
Welcome and enjoy the vw scene!
-
okay that explains why the odd questions. Yes an intro does a lot when searching for something.
-
well now that that's all sorted out... ;D ;)
avi, check this out...

unfortunately the seller is in nanaimo so that's an expensive ferry ride...but a deal might make it worth it. he wants to sell as a package (beetle, bus, 1776 motor) but seems like he could be talked into selling seperately.
there is a possibilty that there is a bus just waiting to be found on the sunshine coast...so start putting the word out locally (posters, word of mouth, ask around at your local garages, etc). but most likely it'll be a ferry ride to the mainland to find one. it might be an even longer shot but there are deals to be had across the border in washington too (hopefully your dad can help you out)!!
otherwise...keep surfing this site, the victoria vw site, thesamba.com, and craigslist for a bus & motor!
just an fyi...buses have seemed to really gain ground in the last few years and the prices have gone up for them...so it may be a little harder to find one (even a project) that is within your budget. but keep looking and hopefully you'll find one that suits your needs!
good luck!

Thanks for your help, i defently will.

I'd like something a bit older, something before '70. (once again im only going with the few things I know about vans.) My dad told me that the older the easier to work on. I do know that the fI pancakes are not what I want.

Too Much for me right now. My school did buy one with a pancake motor that the shop teacher did plan for the students to turn into a "dune buggy" but then after me and the other shop teacher told him what a bad idea it was he decided to sell it. I was thinking about it but I don't want the pancake motor. Can I switch it out?
-
Yes you can put a 1600 in a later bus using this repro of the Euro engine tin (http://www.creativecarcraft.com/notforbug.htm), but if it`s later than a 74 the ratios in the trans will be too much for a stock engine to handle reliably.
