There is a red and white 71 Van on Samba located near Metrotown and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this Van. Thanks Thomas

Yes, going to look at it on Sunday.

That one was for sale for awhile in Vic, then someone bought it here in Vancouver I guess and promptly put it up for sale after changing an alternator? I dunno, seems suspicious to me. Looks purdy though.

Yes it's the one from Vic. It's OK but has it's issues. He bought a split (mark's old Gulf Blue and orange one) that's why he is selling it. Wasn't the one for me.

Thomas,
What are the "issues"?

There were a few areas where the rust was starting to come up around the windsheild area and around the rear 1/4s which make me wonder. Some of the rubber was in need of replacing and lots of little things that needed work. It seem to drive OK but not realing knowing much about buses it seemed to me to be too much money for the amount of work needed to bring it into good condition, but thats just my opinion. :D

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work to be done on it for that amount of money.

There's an awful lot of wavy looking areas on those pics in the Samba ad, almost like it was a semi solid, well preserved bus that got a lick and a splash and not much else, if it needs all the window seals it likely needs a whack of door rubbers and other things to keep it from being leaky and rattly. That's a fair price for one that's had most of that done but I'd want to look at that one really closely before pulling the trigger on it.
Does it still have the horizontal seam above the LH rocker? What does the inside of the nose look like?
-
Not sure about the seam as not sure what you are talking about and the inside of the nose was covered by the inside panel. The floor had some patch work but over it wasn't too bad. I just don't enough experience on buses to decide if it was a good deal or not for that price but I just went with my gut feeling on it.

That Van is only a couple blocks from my house, I can swing by in the daytime and answer any questions if ya like

For that kind of coin 5 minutes to remove a kick panel and peek is time well spent, sketchy floors? even more reason to be suspicious! Please take Geoff up on his offer for a tire kick, you can afford to take a chance for a couple thousand but at that asking price you need someone who's seen the worst in a bus to know a winner (or loser). Just because it turns you on now doesn't mean it'll be a money pit in the next few months, shop with the right head ;)
