Thanks to Steve (blarneyman) for the storage and Rob at AVR, my new winter 'beater' is home and ready to go for the season. Ended up having to do a little more work then I initially planned on, but Rob managed to source the parts late Friday afternoon and got them to me that night! He knew I was on a serious time crunch due to upcoming surgery, so a big huge thanks to Rob and AVR Import Specialties.
It's not quite a $500 Jetta...but pretty close.
Just need to do the provincial inspection and swap the plates/registration to B.C. After owning more Audi's then I can count, but taking a few years off, I'm pleasantly surprised to remember how nice the commute to work was today. Not being able to wrench for six months is going to kill me though. The suspension is too soft and the 10v 2.2L engine is completely gutless. My bug has more power! Once the spring comes, assuming I decide to keep it, I'll be tossing a set of coil-overs onto the car and doing at least a 10v turbo swap, 20v if I can find the right donor.

The bug will be washed and prepped for winter storage today. We'll make one last appearance on Thanksgiving (assuming I can find a chauffer) and then that's it until Spring!

sweet ride & nice score dave!
and a welcome addition to the "winter beater" chapter of the Zündfolge Car Club...a chapter that also includes the "notorious $500 jetta", kev's "early all door", and tarrahs "92 decel"... ;D

Nice. You should buy another set of those Hella 500s and mount all 4 above the bumper, THAT is where Quattro driving lights should be! ;D
-
Looks a lot nicer then when I saw it lol_hitting

Truthfully the Hella 500's suck balls. What I should be mounting is my Hella 4000's, but at $400 a light, not worth risking on a street car :)

Really? Even as a good street driving light? Damn, I was going to possibly get them for my bus as driving lights... after I upgrade the headlights to H4s.
-
Well, they do add more light...but you'd be much better served by a pair of Piaa 580's. A little larger, but WAAAAY better.

Nice beater Dave, looks like the bar is getting pretty high. I am going to have to get a sub $100 car to get in the game.
Hey Batan-
Check out these for lights. With the 100w bulbs work well

Will look into those, I'm assuming they are a bit more $$ then the Hellas.

Never heard of those, but looking good! Might try something like that on the cheap side to see how I like it.
EDIT: IPF 968SC that those are seem to have pretty good reviews online.

So it seems! Around the same price as Hellas, seems like a no brainer. Sorry to hijack!
