Title: WTB: good used BUS heat exchangers (68-71)
Post by: Type2Meister on August 30, 2010, 04:16:27 PM
Hi folks,
Looking for some good used BUS heat exchangers (63-71).
I've got some good used ones but they are wrong...the levers are on the inside down low (beetle?)..bus ones are up high on the outside.
Looking for some ASAP as the bus is waiting....
Thanks!
Paul

You sure about the lever position being wrong? Mine are on the inside (1964).

What year's your bus Paul? 68-71 HE's are quite different from split bus or beetle versions. Unless you can find the replacement ones with both early and late levers. The levers on the outside facing up are for baywindow bus.

Sorry...just ASSumed that split bus ones were the same as early bay...
I'm looking for the early bay ones for my '70.
I've heard one can open up the sheetmetal around the flap and reverse the lever from the inside to the outside to adapt it.  Heard of this or had any luck doing it?  I really don't want to end up with a Dansk exchanger as I think the VW one is much heavier.
Seen any around?  Should have put the word on the street a little more when I was at the VW show in August I guess!

Thanks! Called him and he's looking tonight...but if anybody else has some handy, let me know!
It looks like a tricky task to weld a lever to the outside of these bug ones as the shaft is quite far inside the box and not exposed...
