Title: New to the forum
Post by: sundog kid on August 12, 2010, 08:28:43 PM
Just thought I'd give a quick introduction. My names Devon, and after going to GCVW this year, I thought I'd join the forum. Can never have too many contacts right?

I'm a member of the airriders club out of Edmonton, but live up north in Grande Prairie. Currently Im driving a 71' Squareback, that's trying very hard to be a mid 60's SB.
I drove the 1200+ klicks to GCVW this year in it, with very little issues. And was rewarded with 1st in class for type 3's. Which I still think was just a generous offer, as that early red square that was in the show was ten times the car! But I was very thankful regardless lol.

I've owned a wide range of watercooled- mk1,2's, and 4's, a mid 80's vanagon etc, and have been to the GCVW show a couple of times now.

Anywho, here's pics of Aunty Ingrid The BabyMaker.

So far, this is whats been done to the car:
-early fenders, lights and bumpers
-early two tone lowback interior - z profile arm rests
-what we believe is a 1641cc engine. Pulls better than any 1600 Ive been in
-lowered front 3 notches, back 1
-powder coated stock rims, with chrome trings, baby moons
-1954 7UP cooler stereo
-Aus mesh visor

Plans for this winter are a 1776, and full airride. Possibly paint, but I may have a line on a very clean unmolested Caddy, so we'll see.
;)

Stefan!

I cannot thank you enough. Had the assembly installed in about 20 minutes, little grease, some cussing, and we were in wiper heaven for the entire wet drive back to Alberta.

The gf was thankful she didn't have to help manually wipe the windows ;)

Welcome!  I was parked next to you at the GCVWS.  I think that's why you won.   lol_hitting  My cousins want me to drive up for the Edmonton VW show.  'Not going to happen this year, but maybe next.  Congrats on your trophy!  Darren.

Telling your girlfriend to wipe in mid sentence, is a true test on a relationship. :P

Made for a good story though.

You were parked next to me? Which car, the bug or the ghia? Either way, I didn't deserve the award, but it sure made the ridiculous time crunch to come down for gcvw worth while.

The End Of Summer show in Edmonton is pretty sweet, the club if chock full of great peeps.

I'll definitely be coming to gcvw next year ;)

The bug.  It's in the picture at the bottom of this thread.

Btw, I hear having a milky windshield isn't a good thing, but that picture may have changed my mind!   ;D

Ah yes, very nice ride man.

And I'd give up some highway visibility for a set on my windshield, js.

To bad the GP club doesn't do any meets. I'm in Fort St John.
I'll be going to the EOS this year but not with my bug

Thats going to change. We've had alot of people in the surrounding area asking about the 'gp chapter' of airriders. the last couple of years, Ive been so busy, I let it slip.

We do plan on firing back up next season, try to organize some get togethers. Keep an eye on the airriders gp forum for more details.

Is this Mike with the bugs, that I met a few years ago?
