Can anyone tell me what this subframe is for? The PO of my Squareback threw it in for parts saying it was out of a 914 and will fit a T3. I'm pretty sure this thing never came from a 914, does anyone know what it did come from? Notice the reinforcement on the bottom, much beefier than a normal T3 subframe.

Definitely type 3 , possibly automatic. ??

I've got conflicting replies so far. Definitely not 914 as I was told. One guy said early T3, the reinforcing bar was then removed mid-69 to accommodate for the auto-tranny because it blocked cooling air. Another guy says it's from a T34. Either way, it would fit a T3, but it's not really any better or stronger, just different design.

A Type 34 will be the same as a Type 3 of the same year.

its most definitly not a 914, working on one right now and it looks nothing like what you have there. ;)

Was looking for something else and saw this...Old post I know, but that's a 69+ type 3 rear - 100% certain on that. AFAIK, the auto's and sticks were the same just the axle(s) were different between the two. IRS type 3's (all 69+ type 3's) don't have frame horns as they use a type-4-powered bus-style (or vanagon) crossbar rear engine mount and the tranny "hangs" from the rear and front mounts.
