Title: New Split Van in the area, almost ready . . .
Post by: iceneweb on July 07, 2010, 11:39:00 PM
Hi all,

I thought I would post a couple of photos of my project 1964 Bus. It's had a lot of work done to it since I drove it back from Edmonton at the beginning of the year, and is now allllmmmmoooost ready for the Provincial Inspection.

Right now it is parked in Cloverdale at a friends house while I work on it, but once road-legal will be in South Surrey.

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks for the welcome, guys :)

I doubt I will be ready for the show, as this project is a series of 'three steps forward, two steps back'.

Left to do, are: alignment, brake bleed and adjust and a few other small things.

I am hoping the RGB's don't leak anymore otherwise there will be another multi-week delay. Another failing point point, might be too much play in the steering box, though I have a good used one ready to go. It's a pain of a job though as the front end of the bus needs to be about 4 feet off the ground to get the box in/out, and getting the steering wheel off can be trouble.

The front end spindles were a saga in themselves. It took a total of two months from the day i sent them (the expensive option with CP), to when I picked them up from The Letter Carrier in Point Roberts. The rebuilder did not provide good communication, and it was overall a dissappointing experience. If you're looking for a quicker turnaround, I suggest you try Rizzag or WideFive.

I am really looking forward to using the bus as my daily transportation, as it's a lot of fun driving it.

Mark

Awesome bus! I know what you mean about 2 steps forward, 3 back and the inspection, I imported my bay window from Oregon last July and few weeks turned into few months as I was sorting out the issues. Steering box was one of them for me as well, completely shot(had 1/4 turn of steering play!) and so on.
Say, is that pain 1/2 polished? Just curious why's 1/2 shiny and top half isn't.

Yeah, it feels like it's never-ending!

The bottom half is shiny, because the PO in his wisdom only painted that part after rust repairs. It looks better in the photos than real life of course. I think I'm going to buff up the top half of the green and make an attempt at blending the two together.

And what to do about the Jesus stickers? They're fun in a way, cus I don't go for any of that stuff. One of them has 1975 printed on it, so it would be nice to keep it. A friend suggest putting some 'praise satan' stickers next to them to confuse the public  ;D

put that sticker on the other side it it looks like the van is a split personality.  Or that the passenger praises Jesus and the driver favours Satan (so watch out)!
