d'oh!!!! i see that a pushrod tube seal popped out and into the head on my beetle after installing my new heads. anyone have any experience with springloaded pushrod tubes that DON'T leak? are the aluminum empi ones any good?

jaycee are the only way to go for spring loaded ones

i had a issue with my jaycee set .
it wasn't the pushrods but the seals themselves .if you use the nice soft original seals you may end up having the pushrod actually push right through them or at least deform them and the pushrod will eventually bottom out on the head .
get some nice cheap aftermarket seals that are firm the ones i have had luck with are the solid white ones .
clear and orange/red stay away from with spring loaded pushrods .
also with jaycee brand pushrods check the fit in your heads you might find they actually hit in the bore of the head and need trimming as mine did .that was on a set of comp eliminators

Absolutlely no problems with my Jaycee pushrods, 3 years on my engine and no leaks yet, I also used the white cheap orings, they seemed to be the better option. Countless trips down the track, and on the road getting the engine way beyond normal oporating temps, and, they still do not leak. They were well sealed with Aviation thread sealant around the orings. Mine are fit to the stock vw head.

so where would i find these mythical "jaycee" pushrod tubes in canada? i'd rather deal with cip or avr if possible.

Unless it's a race engine or an engine that the heads come off of all the time for rebuild's your best bet is to use the Stainless Stock style from CIP with the OEM seals. You won't have any clreance problem or leaks and save yourself 50 bucks.
And these can be re-used you just stretch out the bellows before re-assembly.
