Title: How Low Is Too Low For The Aircare Dyno?

Hey guys.
I only want to take a idle test on Seabert.
And a easy way to get out of it is have her so low she can't clear the dyno..
So would slammed 4 inches with a lowered sway bar sticking down do it?

if your car can't clear the dyno they can't test it
The other option is to get a friend of the opposite sex to take it through and hope for the best..
Time to break out the methyl hydrage I guess.

hey kirin, i used to work at the richmond air care station. its true that if the car is too low then it can't be dyno'd also if the tire's on there are to low of a profile with nice rims then they probably wont test it either cause when the rails press in they would damage the rims. also you could go threw air care in the winter season and put studded tire's on the back (also a no go on the dyno) however you can only run studded tire's on the street in certain months. you could also try to convince them that you are dissabled and need a wheel chair...but with a bug i don't think that would fly. even if you get your cutest lady friend with the biggest knockers and the j-lo ass it wouldn't matter cause its all in the anilizer and not the testers themselves (however i won't deny that the way that a car is drivin on the test effects the results...however there is no way to drive to give a pass everytime). good luck.

Kirin, my '68 has only been on the dyno once (stupid bitch dropped the clutch and almost launched the car into the wall ]:( ) They just mark it down as a lowered chassis. I think if it looks like anything (exhaust, suspension, etc) will hit the ground when the car drops into the rollers they won't test it. Although, as I think was stated in another thread, the dyno is the easy test for old VW's. The idle test is harder to tune for, so there isn't usually much advantage to skipping the dyno. Personally, I just don't like those idiots driving my car.

my super was a just a little lower than a pepsi can. they made me go over the dyno once, and i hit...ooops. they told me to...but i failed it anyways. and when i came back a week later, they told me to go around. if you are at all interested, the guy at the bug shop charged me 60 bucks, to test it on his machine. the second time i flew threw it. it seemed to work great.

Kirin, why dont you put studded snow tires on your car and see what they do with it. They do something different from what I understand. Worth a try.

only thing is I don't have any studded snow tires.
It sounds like I'll take advantage of Mr. Buchans offer.
With his tires up front my car is going to be raked like crazy and bottoming out on curbs.
Will be an interesting week.

So now all I'm down to is the idle test. I think I will probably just go to the bugshop and plop down the cash to get it analyzed and tuned for aircare. Can't wait for that craziness to go away(Aircare) And bill my bug is about as low in the front as your 68.  Last measure was like  4 inches from the rear apron to the ground. I had to bring a floor jack in from the side to raise it.

You could also go to Rudy Feeg and get it checked. My friend Mike works there and he has all the Aircare shit for it. They are right behind Bow Wow. Good luck.

Did he actually get that machine fixed??? I took my bus through there and he tuned it by \"feel\"....failed three more times.

kirin, my bros GTI is too low to run on the dyno, so they just did the idle test on it.

You can't do the studded snow tire thing right now.  Studded tires are now illegal, so you aren't exempt from the dyno test.  They will just refuse to test it.
