Title: So what is the best way to clean a carb?
Post by: Chris on February 14, 2010, 07:19:19 PM
Im in the process of tearing down my carbs and getting ready to replace the shafts and bearings but I want to give them a good cleaning in and out....

What tricks do you use? What cleaners? Soda Blasting? Anything else?

Just figured I would get some input everyone can use!

I have allways just used carb cleaner in a spray can.  You can spray right into the tight places with the nozzle, down the passages too. The pressure coming out of the can seems to just spray away the gunk.

Sorry to change the subject , but what model # is your aluminum gas tank for your car?

Wear goggles when shooting carb cleaner into passages, I always manage to find one that shoots directly back at my eye :o

The gallon can of stinky stuff for soaking carbs in always has worked for me (Gunk brand?) followed by air and an assortment of brushes. Anything you blast with will get into the small passages, make sure you can get it out after. Soda may work, never tried it myself, called Langley U-blast?
