Title: Project 65 Square
Post by: steveo_32 on February 09, 2010, 12:04:23 AM
So here are a few shot of the family wagon.

1965 squareback

Bought from the original Family who purchased it in 1965.

The Original owner gave it to his son who drove it for a while and then began to modify it in about 1968 is my guess

Mods include, 2.5 in fender flares

Custom wiring harness, A fuse for every circut, Aluminum toggles switching everything.

Hurst shifter, 356c Brakes rear, Carter fuel pump, 3/8 fuel line, Tony Hill Motor, Vintage decals on everything.

He drove till 74. And never transfered it into his name so I am the second owner on paper.

Old school Bosch driving lights, Tons of NOS seals, and items.

The way we got her

And No rust anywhere, totally solid.

Wicked cool ride.

Plans are to go with the theme early seventies car.

Lots of history with reciepts from tony hill, and so on

Says the tires would lift off the ground, First time I kinda believe that story.

Just from the parts he has with the car, and what was there Used to be quite the grocery getter!

The owner Peter, said he had it for sale for a few months on craiglist, It was until he needed to get rid of it that the emails came in, on thrusday he rec'd about 40 to 50 email's, I never saw the add at all

Gonna have her in paint in the next week or so i was thinking of Picking a Vanilla white with a little pearl, PW1 from a dodge.

Might accent the roof with a chocolate brown Metalic, And a few pinstrips from Thrasher bill.

Thanks to Pittwagon for tipping me off!

The scoops were used, They have been cut into the inside of the car, and were directed with tubing into the twin carbs.

I kept them in, I have opted to keep this in a traditional style,
To be straight i was not loving the scoops but they grow on ya!! Gonna try to leave it 70's looking.

To be straight up I hate the scoops and the flares, but To respect the V-dubs that drove hard everyday to make a racing difference I have to keep them.

Lookin great SteveO! I see what you're thinking on resurrecting its roots, I think that's cool. I just hope those scoops don't cause cooling issues because the side vents on T3s are for exhausting warm air, not for cool air intake, are they not? Anyways, regardless, loving it. What other plans do ya have for it?

I see what you're thinking on resurrecting its roots, I think that's cool. I just hope those scoops don't cause cooling issues because the side vents on T3s are for exhausting warm air, not for cool air intake, are they not?

it's sounds like the scoops were originally intended for a ram-air type system and not for engine cooling. regardless...they're kind of funky and kind of nostalgic-ish....let's just hope the little ones dont play hide & seak with their toys in them! :D

Hey Steve my son used aluminum foil on a really rusty chrome wheel off of an old unicycle and it was amazing how it took the rust off. The foil basically melted in his hands but it did quite a job.

i think acid may have played a big role in it, or else some heavy heavy rotation of floyd....

Around 71/72 added flares and the scoops were added to produce a "cold air" to the twin carbs, The engine was from tony hill, will find out the size next time I can talk to peter. Case blew out the rear and cracked the main journal casting about eight inch's in the middle. Not so cool. :o

Well, Got her down to front wiring and getting to carpet this week, I went dynomat happy on the car, Just for cruising style.
Got the rear window in with the cal look rubber, might swap to the orig rubber, not so happy with the way it looks.
Will have picts up in the next few days.
Added rear wiring from taillights for fuse panel and got a really nice Hurst shifter from a customer at work.
Cleaned up well and the reverse cable even works!!

Found a old Grant steering wheel three spoke wood, (indy 500 wood replica) gonna try a few different wheels.

Cheers
