Hey Kev, Great job so far, I would recommend some form of treatment for the case, that white powdery stuff will come back to haunt you if you leave it to long. You can use WD- 40 or Moovit , I always spray the whole case for storage ,just remember to clean all the sealing surfaces well before applying your favorite sealant . Double check the lifter bores for wear and the main oil relief piston bore for wear. Make sure that the bore for the distributor drive is clean, and the drive can be installed freely. Good luck on the build, you will do just fine.

thanks for the advise Jimmy
my dad is looking over my shoulder making sure that every thing is going to work out in the end
thanks
-
Good job. Its great to see you doing this with your dad. My initial are also Kevin K.
Kevin
-
ya, i wouldn't be able to build an engine with out his help and parts
-
now the next thing to do to the case is to drill and tap it to make it full flow
oh and also drill and ream my crank shaft to be able to put over sized dowel pins in it
-
although this has nothing to do with my engine i just thought this was real cool!!

me and my dad finished taping my case for full flow and now i just have to drill and ream my crank shaft so i can fit over sized dowl pins in it
then im told that i can start fiting every thing
-
Nice work Kev, keep us updated and remember your Mom is always right.
-
iagree ...oh and my dad is always taller then me
thanks
-
.. my dad is always taller then me ......
For a little while longer.
-
ah thats what i though as well before vwchris informed me about this theory
aparently even if im 6-1 and my dads 5-9 hes still taller
-
this is where i am on the rebuild
i was going to put on the rods, but i need to clean them and it was late at night, i didn't want to make the house smell like solvent before every one went to bed
so ill do it tomorrow
any way so far so good it seems to be clearing every thing
it looks like it will clear the cam followers but again i need to clean them in solvent tomorrow
but hear are some pics
but unfortunatly you will need to be loged in to see them

as i have just finished porting my intake and exhaust ports
cutting the valve seats and replacing the exhaust valve guides
here are some pics
sorry again
i have not yet been able to post the pics so i put them on an attachment so you have to be logged in to see them

it might not be pretty but it was my first time doing this stuff
-
i also painted my block
;D

i finished my long block just a few minutes ago
here are some pics

sorry
-
that is my dads valve grinder
it was his first time using it and it was pretty cool
-
:D
-
Did you remember the lower cylinder deflector tins?
-
yes i did
but now i have the problem with my retainer bottoming out on the exhaust valve guide
me and my dad are going to sleep on it and look at it again in the morning
Kevin k
-
great work kevin!!! cool son & father project too!
-
thanks
me and my dad have a lot of fun with it
and just today we fixed the problem with the retainer bottoming out on the guide
it turns out that i had ratio rocker and we didn't even know it, that combined with the valve guides that we put into the head had a very high shoulder on the top was the problem
so i put stock rockers on it and it fixed the problem
-
its still coming along
iv got almost all of my tin fitting good
i just have to get my front apron piece to fit with the header that I'm using
then it take it all apart and paint and put it all back together

Great Job Kevin ! I'll Hire you to do the tin on my Rail!
Gary
-
no it hasn't ran yet, I'm waiting on fittings for my oil filter and some oil hose.
but it is technically done right?
and that paint was one very long process and involved a lot of work
but worth it in the end.
