Title: My "custom" gas heater installation
Post by: HeliMike on October 05, 2009, 10:38:28 PM
Alright here's what happens when ya get a few guys with a few beers in 'em with too much time on their hands on a sunny saturday. This is the installation of a brand new BN2 heater in a 67 Bug. Seeing as a BN2 (to my knowledge) wasn't available in a 67, and I just happened to purchase said BN2 and really wanted to use it - I came up with my own ideas!  ;D The sheet metal under the hood's a little different than a 68 so there wasn't enough room where they usually sit on my 67 so I improvised a little.
Here's a few pictures!  O0

Yeah that's the exhaust wrapped in exhaust wrap. It's actually a cut-up header off of a full size chevy truck

Yeah that's 3" ABS drainage pipe. I work for a plumber and he was part of the drinking team that helped me put it all together. A little customizing was involved to adapt the elbow to the heat-out side but she works beautifully and can all still be removed for later service if needed. You can see the backside of the switch mounted just to the right of the second elbow on the piping. Didn't want to mount it on the dash so I mounted it under.

Next step is to figure out how I'm going to tap into the defrost vents and finish the piping on the inside of the car to try to move the heat around inside the cabin a little better. Should be interesting to say the least. But first I have to install a little longer fuel supply line. The parts store was closed by the time I got to that point. That heater just freakin' wales though! Thanks for droppin' it off Jimmy.
Cheers
-Mike

Looks good. How is it working out?
Where did you tap into for the fuel line?
