Title: Beetleball Mexico '09 Updates
Post by: owdlvr on July 27, 2009, 10:52:25 AM
Just got a text from Jamie French in the notchback...

At 10:45 they were passing Mile-Marker 222 in Oregon, which is Tacoma area I believe.

No word on where they are currently 'placed'...

5:50pm update...

Five cars are still running, Juan and Julia in Herbie have had to drop out (no idea why).  All teams are within 30min of each other...Jamie in the notch is about 1 hour north of Sacramento.

He reports that the heat is incredible...

Not many!

Warwick and I need to train someone how to do 'on the fly' updates :P

I did get an email from Juan & Julia (Team Herbie) last night...

"We were pushing Herbie hard, trying to catch the leaders and the heat got to him.  We melted the head at the top of the barrel, losing compression in #1 cylinder, and developing an oil leak.  When we got to the half way checkpoint we had caught up with Jaime and Janet (black notchback) and were talking about dropping out and heading for home. They headed out and we nursed Herbie to Red Bluff (the cut-off to our home).  He seemed to be ok as long as we were easy on him so we decided to press on.  Team Herbie doesn't give up easily!  We limped him into Baja and back to Chico.  Poor soul, he has earned his new engine in a big way."

Still trying to find out final results...
