who wants to step up and participate in the 4th annual SMC?

We will probably insure the T3 for the weekend, so what the hell. Why not. It'll be good for a good laugh. Automatic Fuel injection. hmmmmmm ;D

it's not really about laying down a killer time...it's more about having a load of fun and getting some people out and on the track!!! ;) 8)

just show up at mission on friday the 14th and find me (tall skinny guy driving the black 64 steel sunroof beetle) and let me know that you're ready to have fun!! make sure you read the rules and regulations pages on the smc website so you know what you need to pass tech and all that. it's really easy when you tell the tech guys that you're planning on running a 20 second pass! ;)

actually...a 21 second pass won it last year!!! :o ;D and with the added variables of reaction time and mph (kmh) taken in to account...everyone has a fair chance!!

Rule # 3 states 3 - No dual carburetors (unless your motor came with them as stock equipment from the factory, and they must be stock duals that are the correct size)

i have considered having a SMC class for dual carbs (stock displacement + dual carbs....it seems like a popular mod)....but it's too late to plan for this year. maybe next year?

good question. i'm not sure what mission raceways rules are about sharing drivers duties. i would say your best bet is to both go to tech with the car, tell them the car will run 19's or 20's, show them that you both are licensed responsible adults and that you have the proper gear (long sleeves, pants, shoes, etc), and that you both want a turn driving the car. i would thonk they'd let you do that!
as far as the SMC rules go....you can have as many drivers for the car as you like (as long as they're licensed)!! it would be kind of cool to see who can pull the best time in that car! :o ;)

word on the street is that there just may be a few other squarebacks running in the SMC!!!! looks like the type III's are coming out in full force this year!!!
as far as fuel filters go....try AVR http://www.avrparts.com/. allthough....i know folks have run plastic ones without trouble...a nice metal one is far better...plus i'd hate to see you turned away for something like that. remember your hose clamps!!!

as it stands...i'm undecided as to whether or not the 2009 SMC will be run on aug 28th or if it'll be held over until next year.
here's my thinking.....there was alot of enthusiasm and what looked to be a good turnout for the 2009 SMC on friday night. this of course had to do with the fact that it was the big weekend and that everyone was there to participate as a large acvw group. my concern is that we just wont get enough people out on the 28th to really make it happen. also...i put alot of time & effort into the trophies as well as gathering sponsors and prizes and as much as i'd like to give it all away to the people that show up...i also would like to see a healthy turnout so everyone has a fair chance to participate in the fun.
from the looks of last friday....these we're the people & cars i noted as showing up and being ready/confirmed to participate...

so from the looks of it we had 9 confirmed and a couple extras that probably would have joined in the fun. that's a great turnout (it would have been the best yet!)...and i'm just not sure if we'd get that for the 28th?

also...who from the lists above can confirm for the 28th?
if it comes down to it...i'll re-plaque the trophies and save them for next year (not a big deal)!

hey silas, what aboot this this year on the rain date the entry fee is a six pack of suds, winner gets three packs second gets two third gets the last one or whatever, and save the awards for next year when there are tons of people to see the awards get handed out.

the SMC 2009 will run and be held this friday (august 28th) during the street legals at mission!!!
there will be small plaques (and hopefully slightly modified trophies...i'm keeping the original trophies for next year) for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place!! also...like kevin said...if anyone wants to contribute to sweeten the pot...then that could create a little added excitement!
so far it looks like steve (beetleman) will be there to defend the title....and it looks like shawn is in...and lance & candace!!!
the more people that show up the more fun we can have with grudge match racing and the battle of the types!!! come on out and enjoy your car on the 1/4 mile!!!!

gates for friday night street legals open at 430pm...racing goes from 530pm to 11pm-ish. this will be the big acvw drag racing night (since the one on the gcvws weekend was cancelled)!!!
there is also an all day test & tune friday that a few avcws will be attending (check out the thread in the lounge). come out early and stay all day & night!!! 8)

hey candace....hope you guys make it...it'd be great to have you in the SMC!!!
i'm not sure when tech closes.
there isnt really an "official" start to the SMC. as soon as cars pass tech they can start running. you can run as much or as little as you like...and usually all the vws are in the lanes together and can ask the lane guy to be paired up with whomever they like.

i just want to give a shout out to all of those people that made the SMC 2009 another great success....
first and foremost...thanks to all the people that showed up in their stockers to participate...
danica, steve w, steveo, les, carlos & blair....thanks so much to all of you for coming out and running in the SMC 2009!!! what a great turnout. the best yet!!! and it looked like you were all having fun and running hard. there were some great grudge matches (including the first ever SMC bus vs bus match), the first ever type 34 razor ghia to participate in the SMC, the second ever female to run in the SMC since it's inception (good job danica!!!) and even some passengers that got a chance to ride along!!! it also looks like we have a few more members in "The Official 100kmh Club" now!!! thanks so much to all of you.... you are what makes this class so much fun!!! plus...there were almost just as many stockers on the track as there were big motored acvws....so major kudos to all of you!!!

but... as it states on the SMC website...
You can still run as many times as you want, but each run will be calculated individually and your highest scoring run of the season will be your recorded entry for the SMC.
...and the season isnt over yet...so... 8)
