Title: Need advice on good glass and chrome plating shops
Post by: vwshawn on March 22, 2009, 08:59:09 PM
Just like the subject says, I need some glass cut for my 65 beetle, any idea on how much this would cost me?  Also, I need a good plating shop to do some chroming ie. door handles etc.
Thanks,
Shawn

I have my flat glass cut/tempered at Garabaldi Glass. Around $300+ for the quarter/door and vent glass.Unfortunately, they generally will not help you unless you have an account(big operation). If the logos don't bother you, CIP sells all of the glass except for the rear. I do have some extra 65&up new vent glass. As for chrome, I use a variety of shops, Victoria Plating being the best(most expensive by far) followed by Superior in Cloverdale and dependable in Burnaby.

Superior do a decent plating job from my experience .

I've seen the results of almost all of the local chroming shops, and by far, Superior is the best.  All the others are mediocre at best.  Next time you see the Scott's 55, have a close look at the chromework, it was done at Superior.

I too have heard from various bodypeople and auto enthusiasts that Superior does some nice work.

I had all my ghia bumper stuff done at Dependable plating in Burnaby. Definately not the best but reasonable in price. As the old saying goes- "you get what you pay for".

Hi Lanny
Thanks for the advice
Do you have an account with Garibaldi Glass>?

I need to get a new windshield and thinking about getting new glass for my 65 beetle.
Do you have a NOS Set of Headlight Rings kicking around?
Also, need tail light lenses
Thanks,
Shawn
