anyone here ever powdercoated aluminum wheels before?is it fairly durable?
I was quoted about 50$ a wheel from a place here in richmond, and that is a silver gray colour, does anyone know of any other place that does this, or is this a reasonable price? (I've never had anything powdercoated before)
I am thinking of powdercoating as an alternative to painting. Thanks for any input!

I've had steel wheels powdercoated before. I don't see why an alum wheel would be any different.
Talk to Russ here on this site. That's what he does for work and he's a VW guy. What better combo can there be?

Many new wheels use a clear powder coat now, Russ will know.

Russ???? any input or ideas?

you can powdercoat alluminum wheels no problem.
when you go with a silver colour generally they need to have a powder clear put on them as well(the silver tends to tarnish without it)
a silver wheel with clear will run you about 37.50 each.
it you found a grey colour that you liked they could be done for 25.00 each
you can call me at work 888-3712 m-f if you have any questions or post them here and i will try to answer them for you

Hey Russ, quick question - Can you powdercoat over primer/filler or does it have to be bare metal?
-
james it has to be bare metal, there are some high heat fillers out there but for the most part it works best to go right over the bare metal no filler.

What about powdercoating a nasty old chrome rim? Is sandblasting enough or do they need to be stripped by a chroming shop?
Can I expect or hope for the powdercoating process to fill-in rusty imperfections?
