So I purchased this wheels

And decided to sand blast them panning on painting them for my bug. First of all, I have never done it to this level. They should have had a camera filming me because between my clothing and my glasses fogging up inside the mask and my technique or lack of it, it would have been a prize video. At least i took the shot. ;D

I had a blast (literally) and still digging sand outr of some very personal cavities. ;D

Those are pretty cool. I would look into powder coating if they are steel wheels.

Budget issues hold me back but, who does it and what should i expect to pay?

Russ does powder coating, and on wheels it is the best way to go, they will hold up agaisnt all the road grime.

good work emilio. way to dive in there and do it yourself. those wheels should look good on your car!!!
a few things to consider...pulling the wheel weights and tires off before blasting the other wheels.
not sure if you're considering re-using those tires or not...but a little sandblasting could compromise the integrity of the sidewall. and imho, the wheels should be re-balanced after paint/powdercoat and new tires are put on.

Powder coat them. You won't regret it.
I have 2 years driving on mine and they still look the same

There is one problem with powdercoating steel wheels. It is very difficult to make the powder go deep into the crevase between the center and the rim. Maybe Russ can elaborate.

Because it relies on an electrical charge for even coating, the problem occurs right close to the 'seam'. The powder, which is electrically charged, _should_ fill the gap but sometimes bridges the gap instead of filling right down to the join.
A good powder-coating joint should be able to deal with the problem if the seam is pointed out to them in advance.
...or at least, that's how my guy explained it to me years ago.

I believe Russ on this forum does powder coating. I would try him first.
I've had Steve at Rainbow powder coating do some stuff for me and it has come out pretty good. He's a bit eccentric and not the quickest turn around but I've found him reasonable priced. Near KMS, Coquitlam.
Sam at S&S powder is also pretty good. I had him satin black about 15ft of outdoor handrail and I think he charged me about $75. He told me he does a lot of satin black and he just put it in with some other job he was doing. Done the next day. Mary Hill by pass just east of Gillnetter pub.
They both like cash deals. ;D
