Post by: panel on September 21, 2008, 09:49:20 PM
How are you guys wiring your 5 wire Porsche external regulator alternators? Does the reg have to be grounded?

Your reg has three terminals as well, Df, D- and D+

B+ use one terminal on the alt (this is your charge wire)

Your male pin is the Df
The 61+ is your D+
and as shown the third is your D-

Thanks Geoff. I double checked if thats the way I had it and yes I've been running it that way for a few years now.

Except..........I've never really been happy with what my voltage gauge has read. At idle it reads around 13.07 on my multimeter attached to the battery and at 2500RPM it reads about 13.3.

Shouldn't it be higher? I've had it checked out at the repair shop and the say it's fine but I never got them to tell me what voltage it was putting out.

Also where is the best place to have the voltmeter hooked up to? Mine right now is attached to the fuse panel somewhere.

One more thing............What gauge wire from B+ to the battery? And is it best to go to the battery or to the starter?
