Title: merger question

I just want to confirm before I start.

My current muffler is not good enough for my engine, I have a 1 5/8 merger that comes toguether as male pipes insert into female pipes, I have been assured that there is no needs for additional clamps etc. I am palnning to install it with a hidden muffler,

Should I be concern about the joining areas and leaks?

I had a similar situation. I used a Stainless sway bar clamp and cut a small slit in the female pipe before clamping. It looks good and seams to work fine.
