I'm thinking of getting a shipping container for long term storage of a few projects. Container would on a small acreage so security isn't an issue. To me it seems like a pretty cheap way to keep a few old VW's out of the rain.
Looking for feed back on pros and cons.

Containers are awesome storage but you need to add some ventilation to them, those tiny vents are good at stopping 40' waves at sea but don't breath enough for storage, a little water gets in and it's in there forever. Torch or cut in a couple of 1-2 square foot vents near the bottom on one end and near the top at the other before you put anything in and it's all good. A little bit of metal flashing along the top edge over the doors shields the seals from leaking too.

I just bought a 48 footer for the same reason. Once I have it set up I will be adding vents as busdaddy mentioned. I know a guy who has his vette stored in one an he didn't do this. Turned the dash white, and distorted all the interior plastic. Be careful how low you put the vent though...you don't want to give mice an invitation.

Louvered metal soffit vents usually work best (something mouse and wasp proof), and a whole lot of urethane caulking to seal em up. Very important to do it BEFORE you put anything in, once it's loaded you are too lazy to empty it out and you can't blow sparks all over the contents. Spend the few hours with a grinder or torch first and sleep better later.
