hi i am trying to get my type 2 motor running and i thought originally it was a weak spark problem. when i crank the motor over now i see that raw fuel comes out of the exhaust and seems to be draining in the oil. now i have taken out the mechanical fuel pump and replaced it with a pump that has only a max psi of like 10psi. i have no clue if the heads are screwed or what the deal is. does anybody have any suggestions or reasons? thanks

,
Maybe "RINGS?"
it is the only way i could explaine the oil.
Try a compression test.

Sounds like you've flooded it really bad, take out all the plugs and crank it a bit, let things air out while you find out about the weak spark then give it a try.

drain the oil. Get a regulator for the fuel pump the pressure should be more than 4lbs for a carb application. Check you needle and seat or float level in the carb.

dont you mean "no more" than 4 lbs rob?
10lbs will most likely be blowing straight past the needle and seat, down the carbs into the exhaust, and past the rings into your oil...
depending on how much the electric pump flows your motor might be happy with as little as 2-3 psi...
I ran my fuel hungry 2276 on 3 lbs through a stock fuel line for a couple years before i upgraded the fuel system, more in Paranoia than anything else

Or the pump's diaphragm has a leak and fuel is siphoning into the crankcase.

Yup, I guess I should read it again before hitting post.
