Title: 69 beetle face lift
Post by: blarneyman on May 09, 2008, 10:57:47 PM
After taking some damage this past winter (portable carport in the wind), I decided the 69 needed some body work and paint. I chose Lotus White for the sides and Royal Red for the rest of the car (69 VW colours). The white has a bit more of a yellow tint than what I expected. But, I think it will look real classy with the darker red.

I went out this morning after the paint had some more time to harden and pulled the remaining bits of tape. With the hood down you can get a better idea of the colour combo. The red will be a bit darker when I get done with the respray. I was going to leave the top and front hood, and colour match, but decided to do the whole car back to vintage colours.

If that white was a little whiter , it would look very familiar ,  :D

There are a lot of the red/white combination cars out there. This cars original paint was Royal Red, so I wanted to get back to that colour. I didn't want to have the white stand out like a sore thumb against the "burnt" red. It's a little more yellow than I thought it would be, but I think it will compliment the red real well.

All prepped and ready for round 2. Had to take care of a few small dents first. Tomorrow morning I start on the red.

The paint is still wet. I am going to wet sand and possibly put on a couple more coats.

Finally got my car done (almost  :D). I still have to cut and polish, but I'm going to wait until this winter so I can enjoy it for now. The last time I posted, I had messed up the paint and had to sand it back down smooth before I could re-spray.

Here she is, in all her glory!

I still need to get new running boards and eventually a headliner and window seals.
