Looking for a good older electric guitar made in USA for my daughter. Needs to be in excellent working and playing condition with good pick-ups...humbuckers or equivilant, and a case if you have one. I don't want to pay any more than $140.00. Must be able to take paypal for payment, and from somebody I know or who has a great history in the vw community.

I've been buying & selling guitars for 25+ years,If you can find ANY US made guitar for 140 bux you got me beat!I would be surprised if any Us made guitar can be had for less than ,say ,$300.00.

just a q, why usa made?
there are some excellent japanese made guitars that are on the cheaper side....

Nothing beats an "inexpensive" chinese copy of a japanese made american guitar replica!
Im pretty sure you could pick one up in Vietnam on ebay.

Since I have been watching e-bay for the past month, I could have bought between 5 -10 USA made older guitars for less than $140.00. I thought I would ask since if they are selling them for that, why can't Canadians also sell them for that, guess I am wrong. Many do sell for much more, it's amazing how much more some of the guitars go for, we would be happy with less than $140.00 though and will keep looking on e-bay.

because of that unfortunate problem we have called duty and taxes ;)

They are older but that is what I'm looking for. There are other name brands also for under $180.00. I am trying to keep it under $140.00

My son and I went looking at squire strats a few months ago, figured it would be no problem finding a used one. Started in the local papers and c-list, and had Ebay in the back of our minds as another option. After looking at about 5 "mint" or "like new" machines in person, (which were really rough or made up of various different guitars, he decided to buy new instead.
I'd be very cautious about buying a guitar on ebay from a private seller, usually they say they don't know much about guitars, and when you get it the neck has more curves than Pamela Anderson. Unless it was coming from someone with great feedback or a good return policy I'd still search locally or start with a decent chinese, japanese or mexican made one. Your daughter will never know the difference, and you'll save some cash in the end if she doesn't like playing.
Try long & Mcquade for a rental return, could save some $$ that way too.

You can buy a nice Gretsch for 500, two of my buddies just bought them and im doing the same
hollow body, nice units.

i gotta say, i have a Taiwanese made Schecter that rivals my US made Gibson SG
for a beginner, get something that can be set up well as apposed to made in USA but crappy. Nothing will take the fun out of learning faster than being frustrated with your axe.

I'd stick to local buying with musical instruments and I swear by long and mcquade. They have great deals and the service has always been exellent. They will usually buy your instruments back at pretty good prices and you can return the instrument for any reason. I got a 1980 Les Paul for $450 (that was a hell of a deal) but its good to keep your eyes open. Squires are also pretty good and pretty cheap. nothing wrong with some instruments made overseas, but ever guitar is different. You may have a $1500 guitar sound like shit and get a squire that just kicks. I would never get an instrument off E-bay. :!:
