I just got some bad news from my Dad, his 59 was lost on March 3rd in a garage fire in Salmon Arm were he was storing 3 cars Along with the 59 he lost a older Olds that he liked as well as a little Dodge Convertable that he liked to play with
Will post some pics when he gets things sorted out
PS It looks like he let his storage insurance run out and never thought to get it redone

would this not be covered by home insurance?

The car is stil gone...
-
Ouch :(
-
home insurance doesn't cover anything automotive. If it has an engine you need auto insurance.

Thanks all

wow that's some heat :o
-
Can it be rebuilt (with a lot of work)???? Wasn't there some guy selling a bus with fire damage that said it could be fully rebuilt
-
That would make a great race car if he just wants to get rid of it for a good price. I can pick it up and winch it onto my trailer. I live in the Salmon Arm area.

That is great idea... after you clean it up it should be much Thinn :D er and lighter then a regular bug.

No it can't. That car is DEAD.
There are many parts that can be saved.
The tail light brackets will be ok. On the engine, the generator pulley, the spark plug wire tube, the dist to carb vacuum line, the pump to carb fuel line, the whole bottom end of the engine will be ok, providing water didn't fill the engine. possibly the heads are ok. I bet the transmission was unscathed. Same for the front beam. Pedals, shifter, e-brake, rear seat crossmember, steering column should be reuseable.

bah....kaminski auto debauchery could buy it, fix it & sell it for a profit. which is funny because there was just a special on w5 tonight about shifty used car salesmen and their accident damaged used car sale shenanigans.

No it can't.

That car is finished. Thats the difference between this car and the bus which is being saved.
-
that car would looked so badass cleared and hammered.
What does he want for it??
-
I guess Mowser and Billyisgr8 are going out to see the car on tuesday the 11 I am going to try to get out to see on mon
He doesn't know what is happening yet and has not has a good look at it he is waiting for clearance from the insurance adjuster for all his other stuff then he will dig into it
Was covered for contents but not for the cars Funny sh*t

So the '59 will be transplanted into my yard tomorrow morning. Truly sad to see it in person. The ole boy only had some 34,000 original miles on him. (the kids named him Bernie) The dials on the odometer are gone but when he was purchased from the original owner in Manitoba there were just over 30k on him. The fire did incredible damage to the rear end of the car and extended up to the front door pillars. It appears that insulation or something fell on the front end shielding it from the intense heat leaving the front fenders singed but not damaged. The hood still remains to be told as there is damage but I'm not sure if it was heat related. Pictures tell the story better than I could ever explain and I'll post up the ones I took while I was out there. As the salvage operation continues I'll continue to post what I find. I'm gonna need to make a few trips down to the Salvation Army for clothes to wear while working on this on. It's gonna be MESSY!!!!!

Thanks Todd
my dad was real sad to see the car go but he is happy that some of it will hopefully live on, My youngest son was harder hit than my dad at the loss as I think he had plans for the car if and when grandpa gave it to him
Dave
-
so todd, whats the plan? you should make it run and drive and keep the body as is lol.
-
That's what I would have done if I had taken it....Todd will put it to good use....who knows maybe I will end up with what's left once Todd is done with it.
Kevin
-
It would be pretty cool if you just drive her like that... good luck with her.

So the doorbell rang just a little while ago and who should it be but Joe, Shovel80's father showing off his new ride. WOW what a nice original Beryl Green '62 deluxe. Dave it's great to see your father back in a VW. My worst fear was that the loss of the '59 would drive him away. Just wish I'd a thought to grab the camera. I was able to give him one of the old car show plaques that I found inside the '59 though.
Someday soon I need to go over and adjust the valves for him though.
