Title: Rip Wally's Burgers....
Post by: silas on March 01, 2008, 07:10:05 PM: i read an article in the vancouver sun today that says that wally's burgers is closing down at the end of march. :(

wally's has been a kingsway landmark since the 60's and is one of vancouvers last \"true\" drive-in burger joints. it used to be (and still kind of is) a hot spot for automotive enthusiasts to go and park, eat and bench race. the dvkk used to hold monthly meets there and i've been there many times where there has been some hot american iron parked out front.

the article in the paper said that it will most likely be torn down and developed into residential units. it also said that the owner/community doesnt want anything fast food or automotive related to take it's place.

so here's my proposal.....on the 2nd and last sunday of this month at lunch time (noon-ish), we should all drive our acvws down to wally's and partake in a little parking, eating and bench racing. this will be the last month to enjoy this activity at this historic venue, and the weather has been co-operative.....so lets get some people together and have some fun.

sound off on ideas and feedback about dates and times, and feel free to post up some wally's stories and pics from the past. B)

You're a week off by my calculations. It would be next week and also in three weeks.

originally i was thinking the second sunday of the month (the 9th) and the fourth sunday of the month (the 23rd). i would be into every week, but i think we could get a better turnout if we did it every second week.

as it stands, the 23rd is easter sunday...so that may not be the best day.

how about sunday the 9th at 12pm and sunday the 30th at 12pm?

lets hear what people have to say.

time to bust out some day permits guys!!!! B)

I regrett the 2nd is tomorrow in my calendar and i missunderstood the actual date.

So now is the second Sunday of March and the last Sunday of March, Right?

In my old days I ussed to be the life of a party, and even now if I show up with my cane and all on my own, The party is happening. It is all attitude.

I was just looking for a good excuse to do something. :D

My Ghia is stripped for rust repair and paint. It's now looking like my squareback is going to be 3 to 5 more years :blink:

as thrasherbill posted earlier, there is apparently a \"car show\" on the 23rd (which i'll go to regardless), but if we can all agree on the 16th, i say we go for it.

gerry & matt it would be great to see day permits on your rides and i'm dying to see that t34 bruce (with or without pans ;) ).

so......who else is in? B)

carlos, myself & my sister rolled in around 1pm and found a parking spot. ran into cameron on his vintage hog & alan u. saw lanny & the turd for a quick bit.

packed house & good times.

There were some really nice cars at Wally's.

Alan was there, with his super camera gear. I'm hoping he will post some nice pictures. :)
