Title: Icbc Question
Post by: nivag on February 29, 2004, 09:42:19 PM
Anyone have any experience with registering old cars with non matching VIN. I bought an early beetle. Previous owner had the car on a later IRS pan. When he sold it to me the car was put on an early pan to closer match the car...

Problem: The previous regi used the ID numbers off the IRS pan which is long gone... so the regi I have for the car shows a VIN number which can not be found anywhere on the car or pan.

Any suggestions?

sometimes the best way too look at something is -going the honest route always seams too turn into a headache. so ,just give them what they want and be done with it.
fill the old s# with braze/grind smooth/stamp in new or matching s#.problem solved.
or if there is no s# stamp in your own too match insurance copy and be done with it

Hey Gavin, I know if you cant get the proper vin number registered, icbc can issue a new id number and tag for the car.

I got my 69 Baja from a VW shop called VanWonder.

The car was abandoned with no papers, so in order to re-register it, I did a VIN # search through Victoria Department of Motor Vehicles, for the last owner. I then sent the last owner a letter requesting a transfer of ownership for a dollar.

If you can do the same with the older pan, then you'd have a properly registered
vehicle.
