Title: Sad Day Today
Post by: Jeremy on January 29, 2008, 09:10:33 AM
My good neighbor Andrew lost his battle with ALS today a little over a year after diagnosis. He was 44 years old and leaves behind a wife and two young sons. Although not invovled in our hobby anymore, back in the day he had a Meyers Manx buggy with a 48Idf, 2180cc Steve Stanbridge built motor in it that apparently could lift the front wheels. When I moved in across the street and he noticed I had a VW project we hit it off right away. He used to walk over and check out the progress over a beer or two and BS about street racing his buggy. Andrew at one time was also an RCMP officer (after the buggy and street racing days), ran the Penticton Ironman and up until he couldn't work anymore he drove a bus for the Coast Mountain bus company. It was hard to watch a totally capable man slowly fade away knowing there was nothing he could do. The hard part about ALS is your mind stays sharp but the body goes away. Appreciate everyday we have people. Sometimes it takes something like this to put everything in perspective. Rest in peace Andrew.

It seems like there are too many people getting sick and dying young. Definatly not fair.

It all puts in the important things in life into perspective.
