I've got one of those black plastic rain shields for late Beetle deck lids.  They divert water away from your engine, but still allow air to enter.

You'll pay $57 at CIP, $20 takes mine.  Its in perfect condition, no cracks, all hardware there.  Heck, I'll even install it for you!
