what is the difference between that new club and the dvkk? arent they both about the same thing with the exception of the exlusivity in dvkk? high perf ac vw's? I mean I have a bus and obviously would never run 12s but i bet i can match most of the dvkk cars in looks...
-
Well, Let me take the first stab at this..
DGLVK.... are about fast cars aswell. Looks are not so important.
Hoosier Daddy wanted to be in a club and so he approached James and myself..
I personally have never been in a club and the DVKK are snobs..... (Kidding) So I thought this would be fun. We are also aiming for fast. We want to start competition between DVKK as this adds interest and make the VW scene even bigger.. We are accepting pledges.... and Hoosier can fill you in on all that.
I also know Kafer Kraft is a club and all there cars are slow..
Send us a note....
Cheers
Shane
Objects in my mirror appear to be Geoff
-
Pipes and I are going to go against that comment that Kaferkraft is slow. With his engine in the front powering my wheels and mine in the back we should be able to keep up with James.
-Kirin
-
Just as long as Pipes and keep his RPM under 6000
-
You mean there isn't a whole new band of power in a engine past 6000rpm? I thought if it breaks at 8000rpm it wasn't built right :P
-
thanks pointblank. just wonderin. bad camber and SACE (sons of the aircooled empire) are the clubs I am in, yes two, actually one that is stuck on 2 names..LOL dam americans...hope to see you guys get off the ground...
-
DGLVK - Based on Fast aircooled cars. Who cares if it isn't painted yet :) Hey Kirin if you think you can keep up with me put your money/beer/crown royal on the line :)
There is good reason for some exclusivity in clubs - it's great to have a big group of people that like the same thing but ya have to like each other. We do \"pledges\" - a person has to meet certain criteria prior to becoming full members. Lets everyone get to know each other (including the pledge) and decide if it will be a good fit.
Another commitment DGLVK has made is to start a new show to add to everyone's schedule - West Coast Showdown 2004.
As far as difference between DGLVK and DVKK - not much, same love of the hobby, same need for speed, slightly different membership criteria, and we have the FASTEST aircooled around.
-
aghhh!... Paint and chrome only adds more weight.
-
Well Your guy's car's may be faster..
But Shane us at Kaferkraft build our own motors and cars...
B)
-
Do you Kirin? Why do you always borrow my tools and get me to do stuff for ya? I might as well build Sebert!
-
Hey farming out and actually building up is two differant things:P
I never said I was an expert at everything...or had access to tons of cool tools!
-Kirin
-
Well Kirin if you build your own Engine great for you.... However if I wanted a 20 sec car like you I would build my own engine aswell..... C'mon man we know Darren builds 80% of the engines.... I too could have had him build me one also however It was cheaper for me to buy Timmy's.... and really all you have to do is make sure the front of seabert looks good as that is all I will see in my rear view mirror.. :P :P :P :P
-
Not true Shane, he'll be so far behind you won't be able to see him!
:P
-
Another thing I could say is in Kafer Kraft's defence, most of us are under 25 not a bunch of old foggies.
And I'd say we're doing pretty damn good with our cars for a bunch of university/high school students who don't have careers and a lot of money to play around with. Just think where we will be in 10 years.
-
WOW first time I've been called a FOOGIE!!!! Not totally true young Dannyboy is in his early 20's.
-
And the rest of you are how old ?
One out of...?
-Kirin
-
ok so you guys have one or two youngins aswell, but lets not forget that kaferkraft has all the hot vw chicks, and all you guys are either married or desperately looking!
-
........yeah and we have the hot chick welder...
-
I'd say the DGLVK just got owned. You can't beat that
-
where do you get the naked welder???? Kafer Kraft..... you guys/gals are doin great.... Us old foogies in the DGLVK,DVKK still need your support for our shows...and please bring all your chickies for us old bald fat foogies....who apperently have lots of money....
Hey Kirin wanna be my man bitch? :o
-
Nobodys man bitch.
I'm currently taken.....
by my BUG!
-Kirin
-
*ahem* aaaaaaactually james im 19
lol im the youngin of the club
-
Kirin it actually sounds like you are James.... Man Whore!! B) :P
-
hmm..didnt mean to start a war between the \"i wish\" and the \"i have\" crowds....man i am old...hey wheres the naked chick welder, i need some weldin done, the wife doesnt have to know..LOL
-
Mr. Buchan ain't got nottin on me! [_[
-
Cept for 70 pounds more muscle, 100+ more hp!
-
DGLVK is pretty much about FAST street driven VW's. enough said. I believe that this club will promote a lot more people to build big motors and aim for a member ship spot in this club.
this will be great because for many years only DVKK has been the \"club\" around here. now that james, shane and shane have started this club, the DVKK can no longer claim the track or the show curcuit. I'm sure james, shane and dan will eventually paint their cars and do the interiors as well. Brad purser is in the DVKK and his car is a total rat bug (cool)!
anyways, I'm not fast enough for the clubs, so I shouldn't talk :P
Stephan
-
haha...I found a recent picture on the samba that could represent the DGLVK club!
(https://airspeedparts.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thesamba.com%2Fvw%2Fgallery%2Fpix%2F148713.jpg&hash=dcaab1f01936fc9e80702539a579857220965d51)
dans blue 63 (rag though), shanes green 65 (but the one in the picture is a split), shane and james's car's (the red 59), and then 66 split's bus!
these are all fast cars too!

I believe if you were really involved in the aircooled community last spring and summer you would of noticed that a little club called Kafer Kraft put on a drive in night and a whole spring of cruises. Many people from ALL clubs including the DVKK showed up and enjoyed them. If you put on events you would know how very little gratitude you get in the aircooled community other then the odd thanks. Its great to know that our efforts have pretty much gone unnoticed and all we're being seen as now as \"supporters\" for the other clubs because some of our cars are slow examples.
I mean isn't driving your vw what the whole thing is about? The great thing about the Vancouver VW community is the diversity. You got show queens, clean drivers, drag racers and the daily drivers. If you start to discriminate you lose the community aspect. The cruises we put on were none discrimatory. I personally don't want to have to do anything to do with a vw community that boasts a popularity contest based on whose car has the bigger or faster engine. Because to me it's all about having fun.
-
kirin, very well said!
some people are bothering me (as a joke of course) that I'm driving my oval daily...and I mean daily. I'm going snowboarding next week . :P
I like the fact that there is competition and trash talk...it sorta encourages people to build that sleeper no one knows about that will spank the cars at the track, or to build the quick street/strip, drag, or dialy driving car!
Stephan
-
dam stephan, my bus is cooler then that..LOL..Kirin, the guys are just bustin on you man, dont take the trash talk so seriously...everyone appreciates any club that can gather vw's together.
-
Ya like Rick said Kirin, I think the meaning was when another club puts on a function you guys are there to help out - Like the Great Canadian last year, Kafer Kraft volunteered and helped out, same with shows this year we know we can count on you guys to help out.
Same goes for Dglvk and Dvkk - if they ask, we are there for them and vise versa.
-
personally, i would like to thank all the local clubs. i think you all do a great job representing what driving/racing/owning an a/c vw is all about. i commend you all for the work you've done putting on shows and cruises, advertising events and maintaining websites.
keep up the good work DVKK, DGVLK and Kafer Kraft.
-
Kirin .....
I think we need a group hug,,,, Can you bring the naked welder chick... I likes hugs...also all the other young Hot chicks your club has... Will make us old foogies feel better and would help welcome us into the new community of VW's...
B)
Loosen the bone Wilma....
Kirin we love you....and the naked welder chick

Since you bring up the point, I gotta ask, since the formation of the common air club, what's the fastest 1/4 time recorded by any club member?
-

No one in DGLVK has run their cars yet...
-
Well Bruce, Lets just say I am bringing a change of Undies to the track!!!
That is if I ever get my Tranny back!!1
-
Post says \"fastest aircooled around\" as proven by turbo Jim the previous owner
And what's with the \"common\" air club? translation is wicked air.
-
Ok, I see now. The slowest DVKK car has been proven to be faster than the fastest from the common air club. How do you get \"FASTEST aircooled around\" out of that?
James, you should have checked into the translation first. The person you asked must speak Bavarian slang or something. Go here: http://babelfish.altavista.com/ (http://babelfish.altavista.com/) and see for yourself.
-
Bruce, I guess the term loosly translates isn't in your vocabulary. Give your head a shake!
-
Hey Bruce,
We are not slamming your club. or its name. Keep that in check. We are trying to have fun and create some fun competition amongst everyone.
I know you are a very knowledgable man, So I would think you are not meaning to offend. [_[
-
Bruce why don't you try typing in Wicked Air, then see what you get.
Like Shane said its good to create some fun competion between the clubs but knocking a clubs name/logo isn't alright. But this is the internet and sometimes things typed come across different than they were intended, so I'll give you the chance to explain what your position is. Although this is twice you've brought this name issue up so I'm thinking you might really have an issue with it..
-
And according to my father in law - who was born and raised in germany, then moved over to canada when he was 30 - the translation is to a german slang word for wicked.
-
Just for the record...
I went to the link Bruce posted. \"Wicked Air\" translates into your club name when done from english to german. Your club name translates into \"common air\" from german to english. I guess that's why your website says \"Loosely translates\". cause it does.
I have no membership in any club anymore, but when I was running Strictly German a few years back, I always had the impression that the DVKK were snobs. I then met most of them and found out how wrong my thoughts of that club is, almost everyone I met were great people. Now I look at this topic and think why did I ever think they were snobs??  If Bruce is representing, I am sure there is more folk that think that.
Matt
-
Sounds like alphabet soup to me.
How do newbs like me tell the two clubs apart? The one with the more letters in it is the club that promotes speed? Or is the shorter acronym'd one?
-
Both promote speed
-
Oh,
um, then which one needs the speedy car membership? Nice looking cars?
I thought there was a difference between the two? I forget now.
-
my new club
-
Man, lighten up. Can't ya take a bit of ribbing? Hey, I didn't start the smack talk about who had the fastest cars!!!!
One thing you have to beware of is half the Germans who see your club's name will think \"common?\"
Hey Stephan, what does your father have to say about this?
I remember a guy on Volkswebbin who called himself \"Zwitterboy\". Until I told him what that meant to any German that didn't know VWs. Zwitter has had a regular definition since long before the 50s
-
Bruce, we are not talking about the fastest car thing... that will happen on the track, And ribbing we can take...
It's you slamming the club name.... THat is where it looks like club bashin...And we are about havin fun...
Whatever the name be...
When you can see that the club is bothered by what you are sayin then maybe take the hint.. -_-
-
This is the fundamental problem with email/ Internet these days. When one person may be joking around another may take it personal and you can't tell the difference in type...
When you cut through all the crap... who gives a rats ass about the translation! The main thing is having another club in the area promoting VW's will do nothing but good things. Keep up the efforts Dglvk, it's gonna be a fun summer ahead.
-
I'm not \"slamming\" the club or its name. Just a little friendly poking fun. There is a big difference, and slamming was not my original intent. This is what smack talk is all about isn't it? There is no personal offense intended.
If its \"about havin fun...
Whatever the name be...\" why get upset over a few simple words?
Many times I've heard people comment about my car, calling it a Super Beetle or a Fat Chick car. Obviously they hate the car. But I don't care what they say, they are just words. Geoff is constantly calling my car a Super Beetle, but I know its just friendly poking fun, he's not slamming the car.
I've seen many instances of people jumping all over James far worse than this, he seems to take it all in stride. (when are we going to see your car move under its own power?) I've thought several times, \"geez, give the guy a break, so what if he's slow at building his car\".
-

Well Said Gavin,
-
I'm not slow Bruce, I just like to put bolts upside down and go back and do it again :)
As long as my car out runs my mouth I will be happy!
-
From the pics of the drag bar installation it looks like the bolts holding the strap going over the bell housing are the right way round. Hey, what is that strap for anyway?
-
Der Gemeine Luft Volkswagen Klub
means:
The Mean Air Volkswagen Club
when you say: Das ist sehr gemein - it means, that is very mean
gemein = mean
I think it actually sounds better than \"wicked\" (just opinion...so good choice in the end :))
anyways, I'm glad another club has risen up and is going to start being deeply involved in the Vdub scene!
Stephan
-
Came with it so Installed it.
-
James, the only reason I bring it up is that it appears to have no purpose, while adding weight. I seem to recall you not liking the way it went over the top.
-
Ya didnt like the way it clamped down over the starter housing, I'll probly pull it.
-
It's always refreshing to see who is pissing who off....seems like James is always in there somewhere :P ohh and the rest of the DGLVK,lol
On to a batter topic, With this weather were having it seems like Spring is almost here. We will be seting a date for the Real Street VW shootout soon so everyone better stop posting and get wrenching! I know i have a long way to go on my car and few hours to do it.
