Title: Bmw Savvy Guys Here?
Post by: epic3 on October 05, 2007, 10:06:12 AM
anyone here into Bimmers?
I got a 90 535i with a problem
It wont start it cranks gets the odd fart out but wont start. Befor this it was a tough start it seemed to be firin off the wrong cylinder then it would catch and run great. While drivin last week it just died and now all I get are farts sometimes.
I was suggested the timing thingy below the dissy as the dissy aint adjustable but I dont know what this timing thingy is called Crank position sensor maybe?
And wheres a good place for parts I'm hopin not the dealer

theres spark and fuel but its backfiring out the throttle body
it looks and sounds like the ignition timing is way to advanced but ya cant just rotate the dizzy to adjust it.
There is a crank position sensor and when I unplug it I get no spark

Honestly buy the manual. You can't troubleshoot if you don't know where to start.

remove dist. cap check for carbon lines if so replace both cap and rotor--check both crank and TDC position sensors should 800-1000 ohms.also check for A/C voltage if no voltage pin came off of flywheel-- check fuel pres. if memory serves correct should be 30-34 psi?--if all is good check your cam timming. get a manual for this.  good luck.
p/s be careful with the back fire threw the intake it may bend the sensor plate(not good)

Back firing won't do  anything good to your Mass airflow sensor.
