To all of the engine guys out there. How does this engine package look for quality of parts? This is offered by CB Performance, and I believe they build and use quality parts in their engines.
I know only the very basics when it comes to what type of parts are better than others.
I'm not looking for a race engine, just a somewhat powerful 3 month-a-year daily driver for my bug.

2165 is what I have but mine is very mild compared to this package. I have plenty of torque and mine is very much a Daily driver.
I realy like the power on demand i get when I push the pedal. Most of the time I do 2500 to 3000 rpms. I am very happy with this engine.

If you're set to do an online order, I've read from quite a few guys that are extremely happy with engines from this shop:

At least you can compare things to CB...
But I'd bet you can get a engine locally by one of the good builders around here for less that that....

I second that.
I do not know how busy Garry (GMB) is but, he did a great engine for me.

I agree, CB is a good company but I would look locally first - A 2165 would be a cool daily engine.

Brothers Machine in Ontario California did my turbo 2110 singleport, $3605.00 plus $373 shipping to me in Sicamous. Included running in on a break in machine, new holley 500cfm carb and manifold, turbo exhaust manifold, just no turbo because it's coming from Staggs, no doghouse or tin. They did a heck of alot of custom stuff I wanted which is not normal in any engine, included good parts, and major work on the heads, with custom intakes. I was shocked when they told me how cheap the final bill was.. I was expecting minimum $5000.00 plus shipping.
The enthusiasm from them was mind blowing, they were allways so happy to talk to me, and were eager to do what ever I wanted.
Well worth checking them out with a phone call, you won't be disapointed.

So, if I went the local route, would I have to supply all the parts or would the builder get all the parts once a package has been decided upon?
Looking south of the border is attractive too because of the canadian dollar.

I have a similar engine (except with 90.5 pistons, although I'm in the process of switching to 94's):
CB 78.4 crankshaft (4340)
90.5 Mahle
Engle FK8
CB Ultra Mag Plus oval-port CNC 42 x 37
Scat 1.4 rockers
Manton .035\" pushrods (from CB)
CB straight cut gears
5.5\" CB H-beams (VW journal size)
Kennedy Stage 2 with Berg/Centerforce disc
9.6:1 CR
1 5/8\" EMPI header with A1 Magnaflow 2.5\" muffler
EMPI pushrod tubes
1.5 qt. Berg Sump
26 mm Berg oil pump and full-flow kit
Stock fuel pump
48 Weber IDA's
Stock doghouse cooling system
Berg welded fan
12 lb. chromoly flywheel
This combo produced 131 HP at the wheels, in street trim (stock weight Beetle) and drives beautifully around town. As you can tell, I have a lot of CB parts, as they've always had good quality parts in my experience. Even though you say that you don't want to race, your list indicates that you could run very well in the quarter mile...14's for sure...maybe 13's if you are at sea level :)

Hey ancheez....I'm looking for a similar engine. We should find a shop and combine up 2 engines and see if we can track down a deal!! Just an idea if you're interested....
And not to hi-jack the thread by any means, but are Scat engines/parts all they're cracked up to be??? I inquired about a 2110cc and he said complete it would be $6250!! :o Just wondering....

I know of 2 other guys wanting (or thinking) about purchasing a turnkey 2000+cc engine - do I smell group buy/discount??!!
Thats probably a real hard one to setup though...

Buying the components is one thing.
Building four engines is still four times the work and you may not want a builder trying to keep up with the demand by having to rush your cheaper build.
just something to think about.

volume discounts come with volume, 3 or 4 engine builds is not volume.
