Ok, I can't seem to get rid of the wheel hop. It dosen't make sense to me becuase I seem to have followed everything that I have read. I have all poly mounts, I have tranny straps, I have a traction bar (which is under the frame horns becuase my exhuast won't allow the regular style), I have bus snubbers with about a two finger gap bewteen the snubber and stop. Not sure what else to do, everything is stiff and dosen't like to move, the front end also. As you can tell there are lots of issues.
I am going to be adding a roll bar this winter and tying it into the frame horns, but what else can i do to get rid of the wheel hop?
Thanks in advance, I really want to get this fixed before I break something.
Sorry this is basically a repeat of the post from other day, I guess I should have read it first.

What tire pressure you running? and what kind of tires?
Kevin
-
are you running the red urethene mounts? or the cb rhino mounts?
what about the springplate bushings? rubber? or urethene
do you have pictures of how your traction bar is mounted?
-
also what kind of shocks are you running?
-
the images don't show the problem.
What clutch and presure plate?
There is help below on how you post the pictures:

I had the rears at 16psi, they are old Hoosier Cheater slicks with tubes. The tires are pretty stiff I don't know if I could go down more pressure to soften the side wall a bit.
All the mounts are red poly, tranny and spring plates. I don't have a picture of how the traction bar is mounted but I have a peice of square tubing running across the package tray inside the car and then a peice of square tubing running under the frame horns. I can take a picture later for you. The tubing is pretty heavy wall and hasn't bent yet. How tight do you have tighten the bar with it being under the frame horns, i got it pretty tight.
I have the KYB GR2s in the back. Are these too stiff?
-
Do you have a tranny mid mount too?
Kevin
-
I have a stock solid cluth disc and a Stage 1 pressure plate.
The tranny has a mid strap and bell housing strap. It was recommended to me to maybe look into the berg style mid mount.
The pictures were more to show you the car.
-
What tire pressure do most of you run. Not sure what the difference would be between a tubed tire and a non tubed tire. Is 16psi ok.
-
I run 20-22 on MH DOT's - I like them to spin a bit.
-
I have been doing some reading and I don't know if it is relevant but when I am in the water box I don't have any wheel hop. Its just a nice smooth burn. Could launch rpm be an issue.
I am also going to try and tighten my traction bar a bit by jacking up under the motor to push the frame horns up a little. This should give me a better preload.
-
What rpm do you launch at?
-
when exactly are you getting this wheel hop?
-
imo the red poly mounts are shitty for anything that sees the track, i used to get major wheel hop in my beetle when i had those, as it turns out the front mount had torn, and ive seen a lot of broken red ones come out of cars.... look into cb performances rhino mounts, ive never run then personally but ive always heard excellent things about them. also the bolt in padded mid mounts are a very big help aswell.
or if you dont mind more interior noise/vibration, just solid mount the thing...
ive always been told that kybs are way to stiff for the rear, what at lot of people run around here are stock brazilian oil shocks.
-
I have been launching around 4000rpm.
I get the wheel hop as soon as I launch from the light.
I was also wondering if I might have broke the front tranny mount, I will have to take a look and see. I guess this winter I will have to look into getting some stuff. Mid mount, rhino mounts, and shocks. I will be puting a roll bar in and tying it to the frame horns, will this elimnate the need for the mid mount?
Thanks again guys. Next year hopefully I will have it all worked out and be racing at mission for the Show down and great canadian.

No, it is the front where KYB gas shocks are evil. There's enough weight on the rear that just about any shock rides fine. Note, KYB oil shocks are ok on the front.

A little insight
I've never draged a beetle but in my 5000lb truck I run 10-15psi and do plenty of burnouts and never spun a tire so I would think you might be able to run much lower on yours. If this will help you I dont know.
-
well I looked under the car and found that my front tranny mount is not looking normal. It look like one of the bolts tore through. Looks like I will be getting one of those rhino mounts or a heavy duty rubber mount. Thanks for all the help. Not sure whether I will get out again this year but I will possilby try to air down some more.
-
Jason, I have a new front CB Rhino mount sitting on the shelf if you need.
-
Thanks Trevor but I probably won't be racing any more this season. I need to pull the tranny to fix a leak, so I will just replace the mount when i do that.
-
Well, I ordered a mohr mid mount and will be installing it this winter. Hopefully this will help resolve my issues, of course I will be putting in a new nose cone mount as well.
Thanks again for all the help.
And Thanks Neil for sending me the pm about he midmount.
