Has anybody noticed that the currently running ad for the new Subaru Impreza was filmed at Mission? It has 3 \"engineers\" whipping around the road course while they have Falco's Rock Me Amadeus cranked. The tag line is \"the car the Germans wished they built\"

i thought i recognized that track.

I just saw it the other day as a preamble to a theater movie. I thought it did indeed look like Mission, but the track looks a lot better than in person. They also appear to be driving some track sections backwards.

Great link, Jason. Now we can pause it.
The opening shot is at the very top end of the drag strip on the left of the screen, the return road on the right.
At 14 sec, they are taking the right veer leading towards the hairpin, turn 1. Then at 17 sec they are in the hairpin sliding. Strangely, at 20 sec they are in exactly the same spot they were at 17 sec, but going the wrong way!

That's funny. I was talking to an old VW mechanic years ago, and he said the same thing. We were talking about VW's newer products, and Suby came up in the discussion. He said that a lot of the old German mechanics wished VW had gone this way.

i take it they didn't mean that pickup/abortion on wheels that Subaru make. Could have been so good. Someone need s to make a decent pickup like the holden R8 for over here. One that actually goes round corners

Another interesting note: This entire ad campaign (more at www.imprezaenvy.com) was produced by DDB in Toronto. DDB is the current incarnation of Doyle Dane Bernbach, the ad agency that came up with \"Think Small\" for VW in 1959, as well as most of their other clever ads of the 60s.

I find it funny how they say \"The Japanese Car the Germans wish they built\"
Isn't Subaru owned by Chevy?... and arn't they running a boxer engine?

chev just sold their share of suby to toyota.
