bought an 83 gti to use as a DD.
first watercooled car ive owned, anyone want to guess what broke first? the radiator fan.
-
Should of bought a BMW
-
to much money :P
but seriously, ive checked every part of the circuit and replaced all of the parts that arent wires
still nothing
-
hook the fan up to direct power Does it run ?
there should be a relay to start the fan and there is also a thermostat to tell the fan when to turn on
-
Have you checked the fuse panel for corrosion? I've had many early watercooled cars and this seems to be a common killer in the electric dept... Before you toss any switches and relays, check that out! Don't downplay the water too much- early GTis and Rabbits are still an affordable kick-in-the-pants on curvy roads!
Good luck

Good on ya! Remember what I told you? These things come in 3s. We can't afford to lose another Beetle. A Rabbit is expendable.

fan runs when jumped,i checked all the fuses ect out and replaced the relay and the switch, wires are all good so are connections. its at the shop now, i gave up.
great little car though, 83 gti with a 16v swap and suspension upgrades
-
Are you sure its getting hot enough to trigger the switch?
-
supposed to turn on at 87, hits 100 without turning it on

sender is probably toast

yup, I bet that's your problem, before switching to the aircooled world I owned 7-8 rabbits/ GTI's, could work on the ol' A1 blindfolded

well where are you when i need you
